Swim Time

Summer time is for swimming!! The kids have been having fun at swimming lessons. Emily has become quite the swimmer this year no longer requiring a life jacket or floation device in the pool. Cadon does great at lessons but thinks our pool is bigger and doesn't care for it as much. One day he'll do it too. In the meantime we will have fun at lessons!

Harvest

Wheat.  In Randon's family, this is important stuff.  It is not just what makes bread or crackers or cereal, it is what provides income.  It is a business.  Being a city girl most of my life I didn't think much about wheat until I met Randon.  I have learned a lot of things about farm/country life from him.  Like the difference between a cow and a bull and a steer.  They were just all cows to me before.  I love going to the country and the peace it provides.  No hustle bustle of the city.  It is nice.

But back to wheat.  Here in Oklahoma it is typically planted in the fall.  Farmers can put their cattle on it in the winter time to provide a source of feed for them.  If you drive by a really green field in the winter, it is probably wheat.  The golden color we associate with it doesn't occur until just before harvest, sometime in the end of April or May, depending how hot it is.  Harvest usually happens in June and a couple of weeks ago we went to watch it.  This is one of those times I love to sit and watch my husband and his family with our kids.  They are teaching them what has gone on in his family for generations. 

This is on Randon's Uncle's land.  They have a Centennial Farm.  Randon's great great grandfather staked this in the land run and the family still lives on and works it today.  This is so amazing to me!  I just love the history.

   

Randon spent some time cutting wheat and taking our kids around to do it too. 

Cadon was so excited to ride the combine.  He pumped himself up to do it and when he got off he was proud.  He was scared last year.  I can't blame him too much, they are HUGE!

Emily spent most of her time in the tractor that pulls the grain cart.  Cadon got to drive.  What fun!

I had to play with my camera too, so they were subjected to photo ops in the fields.  I took 295 pictures of harvest.  Maybe I went a little overboard.  I did have a lot of fun though.

The one above and this one were some of my favorites.  I have so many that I like.  Maybe over time I can share more.  I can't wait for next year!

Fun and Friends

Last Saturday we went to a friends 5th birthday party.  It was full of lots of friends and lots of fun.  Since I just got my new camera, I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to test it out a bit.  Here are just a few pics from the day.

Moving Up

Yesterday was another big day in our lives.  Emily moved up to the Kindergarten class at church.  She is  now in the big kid hall, which is crazy to me.  She was so excited anticipating it all week.  She had to pick just the right dress for it and found her good friend to go with.  I felt the apron string get just a bit shorter yesterday.

Cadon started Mrs. McBride's class yesterday too.  I was so proud of him.  It was surreal seeing him sit in a school desk.  I can't believe he is in PreK.  He listened, started learning the 23rd Psalm (that Emily has already been coaching him for) and answered his questions about the story.  I am excited to see him learn so much in her class this year.

Under the Rainbow...

A couple of weeks ago, after thunderstorms and tornadoes sent us to our shelter, we walked out in our backyard after it all passed to this beautiful display.  It was a full rainbow and it was bright and gorgeous.  I can't see a rainbow and not think of God and Noah and his promise.  The kids even thought of that too.  What a mighty God we serve!  A thousand years later his still displays his majesty to remind us of his love for us.

And his blessings still fall on us today!  My three are under the rainbow!
